Diyarbakir, TURKEY

My name is Saman. I live in Turkey, but my family and I are Kurdish. We are a minority group that can be found in many countries including Turkey and Iran.
I am a shepherd. My family is very poor, so I cannot go to school like most boys and girls. Everyday I tend sheep.
I spend most of my time following them as they graze in the hot sun. This can get very boring at times, but I have learned to enjoy the silence. It gives me lots of time to think and enjoy the beautiful countryside of Turkey.
My favorite thing to do is sit under a big tree while my sheep are grazing and eat a huge piece
of watermelon.
My town of Diyarbakir is famous for its watermelons. I love sitting under one certain tree where I can watch the sunset as I savor the fruit’s sweet taste.
Pray that the people of Diyarbakir would come to know their true, loving Shepherd.
